"Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging." Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteThis quote from Joseph Campbell relates to me in terms of my visual impairment. What I mean is that with my eyes the way they are, I have had to struggle with taks such as seeing my school work, reading, and many physical activities as well. However, like Campbell says, these challenges have given me the opportunity to discover inner strength and determination that I never knew was inside of me. It is this determination that drives me to succeed in everything that comes my way.
"The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are." -Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteCampbell speaks to me through the quote because many people aren't able to express who they are in public. They feel like they have to put on a front or mask their true identity to fit in or be accepted. This quote shows how fortunate I am to be living freely to do whatever I desire. It also encourages me to share the importance of being oneself to others.

"Life is without meaning. You bring the meaning to it. The meaning of life is whatever you ascribe it to be. Being alive is the meaning."
ReplyDelete- Joseph Campbell
This saying speaks to me, because many people believe that there is a reason you are born, and you cannot stray from that meaning or path, or else your whole life is over. That is not true. Your life becomes what it is through what you make it. You make your life have meaning. The meaning of your life depends on what you want it to be and what you make of it. I believe that the meaning of my life is whatever I what it to be, and I can change the way I feel about my life at any point. I have the ability to apply and take away thing. You have the ability to show people the meaning of your life. If you are unsure of the meaning, just being here is important.
"When you follow your bliss... doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors; and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else."
ReplyDelete-Joseph Campbell
This quote is saying that when you follow your passions and go where they lead, you will find opportunities that you never imagines possible. Each individual is so full of a purpose that is unique to them that the only thing keeping them from that greatness is themselves. This speaks to me in the way that a lot of times, it's hard for me to see where taking a leap of faith will bring me, but this is an encouragement that it will take me exactly where I need to be. I was made for a purpose and to make a difference, I just have to be willing to try.
"When you follow your bliss... doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors; and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else."- Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteThis quote sums up my life. When i go withe the flow of my life and follow my own passions, the world itself seems to kinda seems to come together and work out. It may not be the way i intended it, or the way i saw it working, but one way or another, doors do open out of nowhere for me that wouldn't have for anyone else or in any other situation. I'm glad i found this quote, i have a tendancey to forget this sometimes.
"The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are." - Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteThis quote applies to me and a lot of people because every body is different and special in there own way, but most conform to what society wants and do not take the privilage of being their own person who only they can be and no one else.
“Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer.” -Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteThis quote reminds me that it is I that creates my life. There is no need to feel like I must rely on others to always push me forward in my journey. Campbell shows me that I have the power to make my own destiny and that the only way I won't succeed, is if I don't try.
"It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where you stumble, there lies your treasure."
ReplyDelete-Joseph Campbell
I would consider my friends to be my true treasures. This quote applies to my life because when I am at my low points, my friends are always there encouraging me. When I falter, my friends offer me the encouragement I need. I have faced struggles in my lifetime that without the help of my friends, I would not have conquered them.
"We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." - Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteThis quote applies mostly to my life and how it has changed in recent years. I had planned my life accordingly to how i thought it would go after i graduated from Darlington. After I left Darlington, I had to be willing to give up the life I had planned and accept the life that was waiting for me at Model and after I graduate from Model. No quote has represented my life more accurately than this one because this one not only talks about a life caused by change, but also being able to give up the life you had before the change.
"When you follow your bliss... doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors; and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else." - Joseph Campbell.
ReplyDeleteThis quote helps to remind me that doing what I love will get me where I want to be in life. Doing something that makes me happy and benefits me will present me with opportunities that will improve my life. These opportunities are designed for me and my situation, which makes them unique and they cannot be taken by someone else.
"Opportunities to find deeper powers within ourselves come when life seems most challenging." -Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteThis quote applies to my life because in my opinion it applies to every aspect of anyone's life. Everyone at some point will experience struggle. It is this struggle that makes one who they are. By pushing through the struggle one can grow as a person and be ready when struggle. So in a way everyone's life is a form of monomyth that allows one to grow once it goes full circle.
"When you follow your bliss... doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors; and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else."
ReplyDeleteThis quote applies to my life because I believe one should always pursue the things that make them the happiest, rather than what other people say is right. Abiding by this quote will result in more opportunities that may not have exposed themselves if one had chose to follow what everyone else was doing. Being an individual in one's decisions will always lead to a happier life.
"Your sacred space is where you can find yourself again and again."
ReplyDeleteMy belief in life is that if it doesn't help you, or if you don't like something, not to do it. Wanting to be a mechanical engineer i have to take multiple science and math classes but I find pleasure in finding how to solve problems and learning more about a subject. Or wrestling, I'm not the best by far, but its what I find fun and it is where i find myself.
"We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us."
ReplyDeleteThis relates to my life because it goes hand in hand with the Bible. If I am going to accomplish everything God has planned for me then I must be willing to give up my life as it is right now. I must be willing to live my life uncomfortably. Since I do not understand what is to come when things begin to happen I have to be willing to give up whatever it is that needs to be let go of.
"Whatever your fate is, whatever the hell happens, you say, ‘This is what I need.’ It may look like a wreck, but go at it as though it were an opportunity, a challenge. If you bring love to that moment—not discouragement—you will find the strength is there. Any disaster that you can survive is an improvement in your character, your stature, and your life. What a privilege! This is when the spontaneity of your own nature will have a chance to flow.
ReplyDeleteThen, when looking back at your life, you will see that the moments which seemed to be great failures followed by wreckage were the incidents that shaped the life you have now. You’ll see that this is really true. Nothing can happen to you that is not positive. Even though it looks and feels at the moment like a negative crisis, it is not. The crisis throws you back, and when you are required to exhibit strength, it comes.”
- Joseph Campbell
This quote reminds that everyday can be a struggle. No one's life is ever easy, but life can only possibly be what we want it to be. Life is not perfect because we are not perfect. If life were great, the need for God would be nonexistent. I know that because of struggles that have presented themselves in my life that God does exist. Struggles make us stronger. I know I may only be 18, but I look back on struggles in my life and I know that in the end, they only made me stronger. If you bask in the glory of hardships, you'll know that God's love will lead us through the fight.
"We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us." -Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteThis quote really speaks to me. One life lesson I have learned is that you can not always plan everything. You have to sometimes just go with the flow of things. Things sometimes get hard in life, but you have to just let it go . People spend way to much time constantly planning and worrying about life, me included, but we can't. We have to let life take it's own course and enjoy the ride.
"The big question is whether you are going to be able to say a hearty yes to your adventure."
ReplyDelete-Joseph Campbell
This quote relates not only to my life, but the lives of others as well. Adventure is interchangeable with many words in this quote. Campbell believes that a person should be able to say "yes," and mean it. I think so too. If you are saying yes to God, to an idea you have, or to an opportunity you have been given, you are living your life in a way that is constantly changing and growing.
"When you follow your bliss... doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors; and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else."
ReplyDeleteEveryone has their own bliss. I use to think that planning my life by what others have said made them happy and successful would be a way for me to also be happy and successful. I realized that by catering more to yourself instead of others, you get paths for yourself that others wouldn't find as appealing. My path might not be like other people's, but that doesn't mean mine isn't just as fulfilling. There isn't just one path that will make everyone happy.
“We're so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it is all about.”
ReplyDelete― Joseph Campbell
Every person has their own definition of being alive. It can be something as simple as reading, or as exhilarating as sky diving. The one common thing I have in common as with every other person is that if I follow the same path everyone else does, I won't truly find my identity: what makes me happy, my goals and interests, how I live my life. Being alive is about loving the adventures and facing the obstacles of everyday life to create a better, wiser person in yourself.
"Life is without meaning. You bring the meaning to it. The meaning of life is whatever you ascribe it to be. Being alive is the meaning."
ReplyDeleteHe is basically saying that life is what you make of it and it will only be as great (or not) as you make it. That is all up to you. He says that "being alive is the meaning" meaning that making our impact or our mark on the world is what matters. Just us being alive is enough of a reason, it is enough to be the meaning.
"Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain." -Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteThis quote is saying that we need to find the things that make us happy and contine to do it. We shouldn't live in pain or something we don't like just because we think we have to. We control what makes us happy and what doesn't, so we should choose the situations, times, and people that truly make us happy.
"Find a place inside where there's joy, and the joy will burn out the pain." -Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteWhat this means is we need to find our own types of happiness. If we find what trult males us happy we wont be in pain amymore. We cant go around being unhappy all the time.
"We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." - Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteThis quote is saying that we can plan and dream for our future all we want, but sometimes our lives do't go as planned. We can't dwell on that because we have to realize there is a bigger plan that we can not see yet.
"When you follow your bliss... doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors; and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else."
ReplyDeleteJoseph Campbell's quote relates to me because of the sincerity of his words. Life is an endless journey in every direction. He sees the positive in life and enforces it with the doors. This quote shows how unpredictable life can be and how you control it.
"We must let go of the life we have planned, so as to accept the one that is waiting for us." -Joseph Campbell
ReplyDeleteJoseph Campbell's quote relates to my life right now. I am a planner and I like to have complete control over my own life. However, this isn't always the plan laid out for me. My plan isn't always God's plan for me and as hard as that is for me to grasp, I just have to let go. So many things are happening in my life and so many thins are going to come to pass before the end of the year. Not all of these things are going to go exactly my way and I just have to understand that.
"The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek."
ReplyDelete-Joseph Campbell
Lately my life has been driven out of fear, and I am trying to learn how to cope. I have been focusing on the negatives instead of the positives, therefore, isolating myself from happiness. I have recently learned that fear only exists in one's mind. It is simply a product of the imagination. I am trying to let go of the stress and anxiety in order to become a happier person. Like Campbell stated, I believe I will find the treasure once I overcome my fears.
